GOOD FRIDAY
IS NOT A
RAILROAD SERVICE HOLIDAY

On Good Friday, April 18, 2014 the South Shore will operate a regular weekday train schedule.  All ticket offices will observe regular hours.

NICTD's administrative offices in Chesterton and Michigan City will be closed.

The South Shore operates a weekend/holiday schedule on the official observance of New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

GROUP TRAVEL

For years schools have traditionally booked trips to Chicago on the South Shore.  Our access to museums and the Art Institute makes the railroad both convenient and affordable for class outings.  The trip offers many students, perhaps for the first time, an opportunity to ride the train and learn firsthand about the benefits of public transportation.

In order to keep larger groups together we will reserve up to two cars so they are not scattered through the train.  This enables the group to rapidly board and alight the train, keeping our station dwell time to a minimum.  Once the group has boarded crews may open the cars for general boarding.

NICTD recognizes that this loading practice is an inconvenience to passengers and we thank you for your patience and cooperation.  We have decided to continue the practice we started this last spring of posting major group travel information in order to provide advance notice to our regular passengers.  Please check back to this site for periodic updates.
