Please
use the contact information with each listing to confirm the services, hours of
operation, and admission charges of each destination.
There is
more than one way to reach most places. Where possible, we have selected one
that can be used from/to every South Shore Line train every day of the week and
is easy to explain. We have given details to assist you in making your
trip.
In
Chicago, transit connections from South Shore Line trains use Chicago Transit
Authority buses or trains. Please note that service conditions may change
unexpectedly. Street
conditions or delays may require buses to be rerouted or trains to omit usual
stops. We advise that you contact the RTA travel information center, (312)
836-7000, to confirm these directions or if you need further assistance while on
your way. The information center operates from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. every day
of the year.
Some
walking is involved in most transit trips. We have indicated the walking
distances. In these directions a "block" is the distance to the next street
corner. From 8 to 16 "blocks" make one mile. For those trips indicated as
wheelchair accessible, stairs may be mentioned as landmarks but any such stairs
can be detoured using a nearby elevator or ramp.
These
directions indicate the estimated riding time on each bus or train to help you
gauge when you are nearing your stop. In trains, route maps above the doors of
each car will help you count the number of stations to where you are going.
Waiting time is in addition to the riding time. Waiting time for each Chicago
Transit Authority bus or train averages about 10 minutes but can be longer, up
to 20 minutes, occasionally 30 minutes or more.
