DETAILS ON SENIORS RIDE FREE PROGRAM
BETWEEN HEGEWISCH AND CHICAGO

The South Shore will honor the Senior Ride Free program between Hegewisch and Chicago effective March 17, 2008.

If you qualify for the program and are riding to or from an Indiana station you will be charged the reduced fare between Hegewisch and the Indiana station.

Here’s a description of the program qualifications adapted from Metra’s On the Bi-Level special edition dated February 2008:

To minimize problems and ensure that free rides are given only to eligible seniors, the RTA Reduced Fare Card will be the only valid form of identification accepted by NICTD for the Seniors Ride Free program.

Seniors who want to ride free must apply for the RTA Reduced Fare Card if they do not already have one.  The RTA accepts applications at more than 200 locations across the RTA region including the RTA Customer Service Center at 165 N. Jefferson Blvd.  To find the location nearest you, contact the RTA Travel Information Center at 836-7000 (from any area code in the six-county region) or for TTY call 312-836-4949.  A list of centers is also available on the RTA’s website, www.rtachicago.com.

To meet the eligibility requirements for the reduced fare card, senior citizens must be within three weeks of the date of their 65th birthday.  For the Seniors Ride Free program, you must also be a resident of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry or Will counties in Illinois.  Seniors living outside the RTA service area are not eligible for the Seniors Ride Free program.
